Wealth Management – I build portfolios for individuals, trusts, and retirement plans. The portfolios may hold stocks, bonds, cash, mutual funds, and exchange-traded funds (ETFs). The client’s goals, time horizon, and risk tolerance impact what the portfolio holds. Risk tolerance is how a client feels about a drop in their account. The time horizon is the length of time before the client needs the money.

Investing In an Overpriced Stock Market

Is the U.S. stock market overpriced today? According to two measures of value, Q Ratio and CAPE the answer is yes—and dangerously so.

Fee-Only or Commission What is Best for You?

Many financial advisors are registered as both representatives of a broker-dealer and as investment-advisor representatives of an investment advisor

403b Retirement Catch-Up Options for Public School Employees

Public school educators, including university professors and administrators, can save more pre-tax than any other public or private-sector employee.

Active vs Passive Investing

Over the last ten years, however, $1 trillion of investors’ money has moved from active to indexes. A big reason for this is that, over that same period, most active managers have underperformed lower cost-index options.

Retirement Plans for Self-Employed

I would like to give some love to two under-appreciated retirement plans: (1) the Simplified Employee Pension (SEP), and (2) the Solo 401(k). Both are available to any person who generates income from self-employment.

Bitcoin the Future of Money or a Novelty?

Proponents hail bitcoin as the world’s first virtual currency, forgetting or unaware that 97% of today’s money is virtual. [i] Transacted without using physical cash, it is instead processed with bank money consisting of computer digits.

FAQ

Independent solutions for you!

As an independent financial advisor, I have access to many financial products, including mutual funds, ETFs, stocks, bonds, annuities, and life insurance programs. I use these and other products to build custom portfolios for people, according to their individual needs and goals.

My Financial Advisor Experience

I’ve held an industry securities registration for 30+ years and am subject to SEC and FINRA oversight.

Do We Need to Meet in Person?

(For the time being a phone or email is replacing in-person meetings) Previously, our first introductory and fact-finding appointment would be in person or by telephone. The next meeting where I provide my recommendations would be in person.

Subsequent meetings where we monitor your progress and investments can be done in-person, by phone, email, or skype or, more likely, a combination of these meeting types.

How Much Do You Charge?

Most clients pay fee-only or an hourly rate. The size and complexity of the client’s wealth management and financial and retirement planning determine that fee.

Some clients pay a commission, mainly those with smaller accounts, i.e., Roth IRAs, some public-school teachers with 403b retirement accounts or parents or grandparents setting up a 529 college savings plan.
